Bosso, Lucio
Lucio Bosso was an Italian composer and organist. He was Born in Lodi (It.) in the second half of the 16th century. Very little is known about his youth and education. He was an organist at the small but beautiful cathedral in Lodi in 1600, when his Motectorum quinque vocum liber primus (for 5 voices, Venice, 1600) was published, a work no longer existing.
Another known work is the Motectorum senis vocibus liber primus (for 6 voices), the subject of this transcription. This album was first published in 1606, by Giacomo Vincenti, Venice. Like so many organists in those days Bosso wrote music for the voices available in his church. Sometimes many high voices, sometimes more low voices. Bosso had a nicely varied range of
voices at his disposal: mostly SSATTB.
His style evokes strong resemblance to that of Caterina Assandra, highly traditional Roman style.
