componist

Havenith, Michel

Michel Havenith (Kerkrade, 1957) studied choral and orchestral conducting at the conservatories of The Hague and Rotterdam and participated in several international masterclasses with Uwe Gronostay and John Eliot Gardiner, amongst others.
He performed with orchestras in The Netherlands and made radio recordings with the Dutch Broadcast chamber choir. He conducted leading orchestras in Macedonia and Rumania and was a returning guest conductor in Spain with the symphony orchestras of Asturias and Granada.
In 2012 he founded the Ebony Ensemble that performs music in varying formations from Beethoven to Berio. In 2017, the ensemble became the resident company of the Stadstheater in Zoetermeer and, as conductor and artistic director, he curates various programs per season.
This led, amongst others, to the performance of several world premieres of arrangements, like Benjamin Britten’s ‘Cabaret Songs’ and music for the animation film ‘The Snowman’ by Howard Blake.
Together with actor Laurens de Groot, he wins the Zoetermeer Art and Culture Prize 2021 for a joint production of Stravinsky's Histoire du Soldat.
Michel Havenith made arrangements of orchestral works for the Ebony Ensemble. A selection of these arrangements are published and available through Donemus.
