Nicolaou, Georgia

Georgia Nicolaou (1990) is a Cypriot composer based in Rotterdam. In September 2016 she was awarded with the Tera de Marez Oyens prize during the Gaudemaus Muziekweek in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She recently graduated with her master’s degree in Composition at the Codarts University of the Arts, Rotterdam, under the guidance of Peter-Jan Wagemans, René Uijlenhoet and Paul van Brugge. During her graduate studies she completed a thesis on a research project, based on the communication between Composers and Choreographers where both sides work collaboratively through the artistic process, towards a performance. She previously studied Composition and Jazz vocals at the Ionian University in Corfu, Greece and Composition at the Utrecht Conservatory, with Jeroen D’Hoe and Caroline Ansink from where she received her Bachelor’s degree.
Georgia’s works include pieces for various chamber ensembles and electronic music, as well as a number of contemporary dance pieces, two modern operas and a theater work. She often performs some of her own pieces as a vocalist and dancer. Her works have been performed in distinguished festivals and venues in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Italy and Portugal. Furthermore, she is currently working as a guest composer/collaborator on a project within the University College London, that aims to engage the broader public in Physiology and Science through a musical presentation of the human body and its inner sounds.
