In Articles de sport worden de dempers van het laagste octaaf via het sustain pedaal omhoog gehouden, waardoor de corresponderende snaren mee resoneren. Dit geeft een echoachtig effect. De Amerikaanse componist George Crumb paste dit op grote schaal toe. Sommige typen liedbegeleidingen kunnen naar mijn idee ook prima dienst doen onder andere liederen. Die van Les traits du ciel leende zich uitstekend als basis voor Hidden things, het laatste lied uit mijn Six Cavafy songs voor bariton en 15 instrumentalisten. - ROBERT NASVELD; Program note: (Première: 20-11-2001 - Bibliothèque National - Ludovie de San, bariton, Noël Lee, piano). In Articles de sport the dampers of the lowest octave are elevated by the sustain pedal, allowing the corresponding strings to resonate. This gives an echo-like effect; the American composer George Crumb used it regulary. In my opinion, some types of song accompaniment can easily serve under other texts. The accompaniment of Les traits du viel worked very well as the basis of Hidden things, the last of my Six Cavafy songs for baritone and 15 instrumentalists. - ROBERT NASVELD
