Program note (English): In 1738 the leadership of Amsterdam's Stadsschouwburg planned and performed a splendid celebration of their theatre's hundredth anniversary. The handwritten records of that auspicious event are preserved in the University of Amsterdam's library (shelf number XXI B 26). Included among the ten orchestral works performed is the Concerto à 4 stromenti in A minor now published for the first time. De Fesch's debt to Vivaldi is obvious. This concerto is youthful work which De Fesch had left behind in the Schouwburg library when he left Amsterdam in 1725. He apparently did not think it worthy of inclusion in his Opus II (Donemus Vol. 4) or in Opus III (Donemus Vol. 4). Nevertheless it is a lively, entertaining piece by a promising young composer and is deserving of our attention.
