Pavane, corrodanse. is a piece written as the history of a renaissance dance, from its first appearance as a quick dance in the late 15th century, through the lyric, sad Pavans by Dowland and others up to its disintegration into an infinitely slow, mournful danse basse since the era of Ravel. But not only the dance, but even its medium, be it the performance or the way it is heard are subject to change, as is the perception of its musical material. In this piece, I transform all the guises the dance went through through a filter based on just intonation and a gradually slowing metric modulation.
