Tango Orgánico : for two accordions / Benjamin de Murashkin
Toelichting:
This piece takes the traditional tango rhythm and combines it with flowing minimalism-inspired repetitions to create an organically-evolving concert-tango. After a slow and sultry introduction of the main theme the music quickly moves on to explore some of the the many textural possibilities of two accordions through the use of phasing patterns and the play between flowing and more sustained harmonic activation.
Structurally, the piece is made up of two distinct halves. Between them, a musical cross-fade serves to create a continuous whole out of two sections otherwise resting in the distant key centres of E minor and Bb minor.
As the second section unfolds, the thematic material of the first starts to poke its way back into the mix, building up to the climax of the work. However, the following calm is short-lived as the two accordions collide in waves of swelling crescendos and decrescendos before a lasting peace is finally found.
