Program note (English): Postnuclear Winterscenario was written shortly after the Gulf War broke out. In those days I felt speechless and unable to compose. Meteorologists predicted apocalyptical consequences for the climate and the environment, similar to the effects of a nuclear war. They called it a post-nuclear winterscenario. I decided to express my speechlessness in music. In only a few hours time I wrote the piece for piano solo. It is probably the most simple music I ever wrote. All musical material was reduced to a minimum. I regard Postnuclear as a centerpiece, and I already wrote several other 'scenarios'. These scenarios are not just simple transcriptions but completely new compositions. - JACOB TER VELDHUIS
