Toelichting:
Weather Report consists of 2 songs: Storm Surge (6'30" and Sunshine 7'40").
STORM SURGE
In the summer of 2011, I experienced tropical cyclone Irene from the 23rd floor in midtown Manhattan. There was a curfew and public life in the city came to a complete standstill. I followed the local news channels with their ominous reports. The lyrics for Storm Surge are taken from weather reports about hurricane Irene.
SUNSHINE
Last summer I tested new software in my studio, including an artificial voice called Blue, an intelligent virtual soprano, capable of singing lyrics in accent-free English. I made her sing the phrase 'Will the sun shine?' Sunshine is not only about the Dutch desire for sunshine but also a metaphor for anxiety about climatic developments.
