Bijzonderheden: The only piece in the collection without piano accompaniment, Dernier Reflet is written for solo English horn. As its title suggests, it reflects on life and death. The piece began as a single-take improvisation that I later transcribed, preserving the immediacy and vulnerability of its creation. I chose the English horn for its naturally dark timbre and melancholic resonance, qualities that align with the piece’s introspective spirit. It expresses meditation through sound; solitude, inward stillness, and the quiet act of sitting with one’s thoughts. Contemplating without judgment. Also, another parallel to one of the things Maurice often used to say.
