In 1986, the composer wrote: I composed my Second Symphony between August 1985 and February 1986. After 15 years of dealing with the subject, my fascination about the development and possibilities of the modern electronic keyboard, the synthesizer made me decide to this risky enterprise. A risk,yes, as today's musical literature shows no comparable examples, so writing music for the combination of electronic and acoustic instruments demands a high degree of imagination. Nowadays synthesizers contain an enormous variety of sound, pitch and new expression-capacities. The only shortcoming is their literal synthetic sound-source as well as the fact that the acoustic transformation needs the use of loudspeakers. Electronic keyboards demand a complete new approach in technique. I am convinced that within the development of contemporary orchestral- and chamber-music synthesizers will play an important role, far more than the age of electronic experiment during the 50s and 60s did.
