Program note (English): This piece was for me an exercise in restriction. A guiding principle is the continual breaking out of self-imposed prisons. Starting with very few elements, this process is pursued obsessively while carefully observing the timing and supply of new 'information'. The friction between restriction and liberty is also perceptible on a more general level: the inflexible idiom of the beginning (octaves, pentatonicism, rigid metre) is gradually stripped of its tight bonds. Thus, style is made subordinate to the musical process, as it should be. - JOEL BONS
