Program note (English): Torso is a part of a percussion opus which is yet to be completed. The title speaks for itself. Every new piece within a composer's 'oeuvre' is a sort of 'torso'. My starting point in this work was the creation of a compact, independent, closed musical space; a space in which continuously changing melodic and rhythmic structures would play diverse roles as they add onto, blend in and/or answer another. Thus the piece has a defined inertia although all its components are related to its tempo. At a certain moment, the patterns rupture. It's as if you poke a hole in an egg, setting free material which has waited for this chance to escape: rhythmic motion makes room for pure melody. - JAN BUS
