Program note (English): In Dramm the string quartet has to sound as compact and homogeneous as possible. To achieve this effect, the traditional refinement of dialogue between the four instruments is substituted for an elementary form in which the musicians never play as individuals but as a collective, just as one player. This approach is connected by a simple musical idea: a monolithic, harmonic line that during the music gradually becomes more complex. Opposed to this idea of collectivity are three contrasting elements: hocket-like playing-techniques, the bare sound of the octave, and the Bartók- pizzicati. - MARTIJN PADDING
