Swallow : for double wind quartet and piano, 1992 / José-Luis Greco

(Componist)
Toelichting:
Program note (English): Swallow is in one continuous movement. However, 4 sections make up the structural scheme on which the action unfolds: 1) ensemble, 2) piano featured, 3) winds featured, 4) ensemble. A characteristic element is the 'mirror' or 'shadow' play between the 2 quartets; the piano often playing the role of connecting point. Besides this 'stereo' aspect, there is another spatial concern: the arrangement of the players can be thought of as an analogy for the way 2 parallel lines will converge at a point on the horizon in a drawing which uses perspective to create a sense of depth. Besides 'dramatizing' the sensorial impact of the piece, these spatial considerations are used to present and develop the musical ideas whith sharper definition. - JOSÉ-LUIS GRECO
