Program note (English): In Shift for solo percussionist flights against a tight duo that stands behind him. This conflic is played out of synch with each other due to rrregular grace notes in their parts. This results in a shifting relationship of playing 'not together.' This not-togetherness requires extreme concentration not to be pulled into the tempo of the other group. The conflict between togetherness and independence forms the musical centerpoint of this piece. - RON FORD
