Toelichting:
Program note (English): When John Cage was in The Hague, a student there asked him why he so relied on stopwatches for control in his recent pieces. His reply was that he wishes that it wasn't necessary, but that he knew no other way of working with the element of time. Cross is a modest attempt to deal with his question - the control of time - allowing maximum flexibility without falling into improvisation. In Cross I bring 7 players together as a unified entity, while each player retains his/her own individual timing. Each player works his way through the musical material of the piece, playing either short of long notes and waiting either short of long in between (the exact lenghts are determined by the individual players). - RON FORD
