compositie
Calumnia : for orchestra, 1999 / Juan Felipe Waller
Toelichting:
- JUAN FELIPE WALLER; Although in its origin, this piece was intended for contemporary ballet (or rather for modern dance), the function it actually has yet to be determined. Its form could suggest that of an overture, or the 1st movement of a symphony. It could also stand by itself as an own and righteous piece. What is definetely clear, is its continuous driving force which emerged from different points of approach and inspiration. Amongst them are: - abusing and disruptive forms of spoken language such as market shouts and provocative false statements (hence the title), - an attempt to confront different contexts (musical and social) by exploring its resulting possibilities of adaption, - a personal obsession to distort existing melodic curves (in the case from Mexican traditional music) together with an akward harmonic discourse. - JUAN FELIPE WALLER
