Bijzonderheden: Commissioned by and written for the VU-Kamerorkest on the occasion of its tenth anniversary in 2002. The première took place at the Groate Kerk, St. Jacobiparochie (Friesland, NL), on 3 november 2002.

When I first saw the extremely beautiful painting by Jack Yeats, Galway Races, I was immediately caught by it and I started imagening what a day at the horse races would be like. While I was in Ireland in 2002, spending my Summer holidays, I was lucky to go to the Sligo Horse races. I pictured some impressions of this event in this short and rather light-hearted composition.
The whole piece is almost entirely in a 6/8 metre, similar to the popular Irish jig (I've put one in), and based on the motive that runs throughout the work in various forms & instrumentation.
