De titel refereert aan de middeleeuwse semiotiekformule iets staat voor iets. Een teken refereert aan een object dat zelf een teken wordt, refererende aan weer een ander object dat weer een teken wordt ad infinitum. Umberto Eco heeft dat proces gedefinieerd als ongelimiteerde semiosis (voornamelijk gebaseerd op de theorieën van Pierce). De compositie is de eerste muzikale poging tot het bewust toepassen van een theorie waaraan ik momenteel werk, ongelimiteerde compositorische semiosis. Deze theorie brengt het associatieve element in het compositorische proces naar voren. - EDWARD TOP; The title refers to the formula of the medieval semiotics: something stands for something. A sign refers to an object that becomes a sign itself referring to another object becoming a sign ad infinitum. Umberto Eco has coined this process as unlimited semiosis (mainly based on Pierce's theories). The composition is the first musical attempt of consciously using a theory I am working on called unlimited compositional semiosis. dealing with the element of association during the process of composition. - EDWARD TOP
