Program note (English): To explore the internal structure of paradoxically named "fundamental particles" physicists bombard them with other particles at very high energy. They then observe the reaction products made visible to the eye by the trails they leave in a special low density bubble chamber. What is revealed is sometimes both simple and elegant suggesting that the universe is very similar both on very large and very small scales but not, perhaps, in between. On the human scale the universe can be both complex and baffling as is the case with the ground plan of the Hagia Sofia mosque in Istanbul. What would Bach have made of it all I wonder? - Richard Sims
