Dr. Smurry : voor es-klarinet, bes-klarinet, bassethoorn en basklarinet, 1983, (rev. '85) / Chiel Meijering
Toelichting:
Program note (English): The title of this work derives from graffiti-drawings in Amsterdam, several of which bore the signature 'Dr. Smurry'. The Dutch word 'smurrie' means: wet dirt of all kinds. A couple of years ago already Dr. Smurry stopped his work and his name has only remained on the walls of some deserted alleys. The symbols used by graffiti-artists have a magic impact, just like the musical symbols we use to note down our world of sound. This in fact is the only explanation of the work's title. It was not my intention to write a 'smurrie-like' composition. On the contrary, it is clear and its shape is simple. - CHIEL MEIJERING
