Bijzonderheden: Composed in 2004 by request of Nanine Linning. Commissioned and produced by Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. The premiere took place on October 6 2004 at the Rotterdam Schouwburg, followed by numerous performances throughout the Netherlands. Violinist Monica Germino played live on stage among the dancers. Toelichting:
Suites of Lux is characterised by an unconventional way of stage lighting, hence the title. The ballet is about stillness and serenity. It is the third ballet Nanine created on my music, after Karpp ( based on my string quartets) and Bubble Gum Wrapper. The collaboration still also resulted in productions like Bacon and Cry Love.
The ambient soundtrack of Suites of Lux is electronically ‘flanged’ and ‘phased’, which makes it difficult to always hear the pitch. As a result, irregularities of the soundtrack often mix and clash with the pure intonation of the live violin, thus creating a spontaneous and lush effect.
