Inspired by the modern Chinese painting “Purple Sky” by Zhang Guanghai, the music evokes the imaginative and vibrant process in which dramatic purples and deep hues gradually saturate and mingle with a sprinkled white sky. It is characterized by extreme registral contrasts and colorful musical gestures. The piece is structured in three sections, each culminating in several climaxes. The central section presents a stark contrast, highlighting sparse textures and subtle tone colors as its key elements. Throughout the composition, micropolyphonic materials and repetitive pitch centers symbolize the dynamic coloration of the skies. Additionally, the piece incorporates oriental colors, including Peking operatic effects, Chinese instrumental sounds, and muted pentatonic scales.
