Toelichting:
The piece is inspired by the modern Chinese painting “Sign of Spring” by artist Zhang Guanghai. It begins with a variety of subtle and rich pianistic gestures, soon joined by the bass, which juxtaposes with the piano through the use of Chinese elements and pentatonic materials, complemented by delicate chromatic fragments. The music reaches its climax in the middle section, where the bass and piano exhibit extreme registral tone color effects. Towards the end, the piece swiftly fades away, utilizing a series of glissando harmonics produced by the bass.
