In Arabic, zahir means visible, present, impossible to overlook. It is something—or someone—that, once encountered, gradually comes to occupy our thoughts until we are no longer able to concentrate on anything else. Such a condition may be regarded as either sanctity or madness."

The work draws its inspiration freely from the idea of the Zahir. A state of inner balance is gradually disturbed by an obsessive presence that slowly takes hold of the music. At first, this presence is almost imperceptible, a slight alteration that quietly enters the musical texture. It develops like an embryo taking shape beneath the surface, gradually permeating every gesture and every sound. As it grows, the initial sense of balance slowly begins to dissolve, until the obsessive presence ultimately occupies the entire musical landscape in the final measures.
