Program note (English): The title refers to Ananse, the trickster god of the Ashanti people in West Africa. Ananse, like Hermes, shatters the accepted boundaries of language and action. He makes connections across the limits we ordinarily set for life, bringing together polar opposites and disclosing that which is hidden. A trickster God guides us across boundaries of everyday reality to experience other states of consciousness through a-causal connections. Ananse is filled with irreverent vitality and creativity. Thus this Duo should be performed with creative musicality, accepting the unexpected changes in mood as the result of imagination and playful tricks of Ananse (pronunciation: Anantsè). - TERA DE MAREZ OYENS
