Chapter three : Stage 1, for orchestra, 1997 / Enrique Raxach

Toelichting:
Program note (English): Chapter Five is a single movement for orchestra, but can be divided into two sections followed by the insertion of a transitional part and an ending coda. The primordial impulse of the piece is the rhythmical one. The rhythmic development strives for continuity between the sections. It plays with the harmonic-melodic conception of the first section, struggle with the contrasting ideas and frictions of the second section, floats in the ambivalent transition and nearly disappear in the brutal sonority of the coda. Chapter Five is abstract music, but the music has a clear direction, moving from one situation to another by creating dramatic tensions and relaxations. It opens intensely without any directional tendences and by degrees find the material its directionality; less than a quarter of an hour later, it suspends without unravelling.
