Toelichting:
Program note (English): This was composed as the first piece of my "HINGE" series. I started this series from a fascination of the work by Marcel Duchamp, "Door: 11, rue Larrey". He let a carpenter make this door in his apartment in Paris in 1927. The door served two doorways so it would always be simultaneously opened (in the one room) and closed (in the other room). I suppose that this "opened and closed at the same time" situation served as a metaphor for the way he led his daily life, also created fascinating changes in space and time in his apartment. My "HINGE" series is based on this simultaneousness created by simple alteration of space and time in music. I use fifth interval and its inversion fourth as "opened" intervals, and they pile up to create "closed" intervals including the basic "opened" intervals that I mentioned. There are thirty-five sections in total and the structure is planned symmetrically in each section. The sections have contrasting characters in features like continuation
and alteration. - KAZUHIKO SUZUKI
