Acta Numerica is inspired by the fascinating relationship between music and proportions expressed in numbers. Order and madness of relationships in numbers is the 'Leitmotif' of this project. The total duration of the piece is divided in four parts by means of the Golden Section, each section is marked by gong sample. A large number of samples of the soprano and contra bass flute (Paetzold) were made in the composer's studio and these provided most of the basic material of the piece. Spoken numbers in different languages, separately and through the instruments were another source. - RODERIK DE MAN
