Toelichting:
Program note (English): 'Parten' is an atonal composition for mechanical organ, preferably a large one. The title refers to the structure: the piece consists of eight different movements (parts), the order of which is to be chosen by the performer. The movements, which each has a sound character of its own, merge into one another without interruption.
The organ is used both in a traditional manner (e.g. trio registration) and in a more avant-garde way (half-open registers, clusters). The same dualism is to be found in the rhythmic notation: movements I-IV have a metric notation, movements V-VIII a proportional notation.
The application of new means should not refrain the player from performing the work with verve as well as allowing a certain degree of lyricism. - WIM DE RUITER
