Toelichting:
Lydische suite [Lydian Suite] was written in Utrecht in January 1954. The three movements already show characteristics of works from De Leeuw's later expanded modal period. Elements such as the majestic octaves at the beginning of the Allegro, the cell from which everything develops and the static movement of the beginning of the Andante tranquillo are stylistic means that would become more and more important in later years. In 1955 De Leeuw published an arrangement of the last two movements of this suite, Andante and vivace, for flute and piano.
