Sonatine was written in Breda in the spring of 1949. The three movements make this work a modern incarnation of the lighter version of the Classical sonata. The last movement is an homage to Maurice Ravel, the French composer with whom around this time De Leeuw shared his love for Baroque and early Classical forms.
